Kudos to technology and a great leap in mobile technology with the advent of iOS compatible YesLife app.
Ok....so if you have no idea what I just said it's perfectly fine....
YesLife is the equivalent of a Skype program/app designed specifically for the Yes Mobile network (018 prefix) operated by YTL Communications. How it works is pretty much similar to Skype, whereby upon installation, the user can make VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls from the computer to a normal phone (any fixed line or mobile phone in Malaysia) and pay only 9 cents per minute, which is ridiculously cheap.
Like Skype, the YesLife will only work with a valid internet connection (Hence Yes Mobile promotes their 4G broadband services) be it a home based WiFi, or broadband, etc.
Previous catch was, it has to be on a windows based platform only.....
Now they have outdone themselves by actually developing it for the iOS platforms. Meaning to say, the iPhone, the iPad, the iPod!!!!! Oh YES (no pun intended)....even an iPod can now be a phone thanks to the new app (of course the iPod must have a valid internet connection as I've said earlier). Install the Yes Life app which can be found on the AppStore and VOILA......iPad is a phone.....iPod is a phone....
Amazing? YES!!
Wait....I'm not done yet......here is the BEST part (at least in my opinion)
Picture this.......you are overseas.....lets say.....in Alaska (trying to be as remote as possible), and you have a good internet service thanks to Starbucks...... Just whip out the iPod that's been your loyal companion during the journey.....and log in to YesLife app and dial away......YOU WILL be calling home (Malaysia only) at exactly 9 cents a minute......or SMS at 9 cents each....... BEAT THAT!!! I mean calling from Alaska to Malaysia at 9 cents (Malaysian currency) a minute using what used to be an MP3 player.......
Now that's AMAZING.....
