A Pearl Is Still A Gem

I love Penang....

It may not be the pearl of my heart but it does carry the title of being The Pearl of the Orient.

I find the island very straight forward. A take it as it is kind of place. No mysteries needed. Just a lot of history that lies in its past, and alot more history waiting to be discovered through its streets and buildings.

Having spent 10 months (only....sighhh) living and studying on the island, i've grown beyond just being fond of the island....it is a part of my history. And every chance I get to go back to it, its like rediscovering a part of myself all over again.

In all my visits there. I found the memories most special are the ones where I travelled ithout the comforts of my own car..... Literally walking through lanes of memories and stopping to smell the humid sea breeze and dust from post colonial buildings. This place has a lot more character than it is credited for.

My most recent trip was only an overnight stay. Though short, it was different as i took the chance to explore the beaches of Tanjung Bungah (Flower Cove by literal translation). This is the much lesser known stretch of beach that lives in the shadows of the famous Batu Feringghi. And honestly, in my younger days, I would just tell my dad to drive past it and proceed. But so much has changed.....

Coming back to the island only makes me revisit my long time dream of retiring to island living someday....

Who knows.....

sunset paraglide

Castle on water. What greatness men can build..
God tops it off with special lighting effects...

Penang... famous for Sun, Sea and Food...

There are more people at the food places than the beach...

honestly.... can you even blame them?

Even kids are fighting for the food...

To my East.... behold.....

To my West..... don't even get me started with the north and south

Surprise surprise.... i took the BUS

Look I have proof...

seriously.... i took the bus...

gotta return soon...

  2. ... did you managed to visit your late grand uncle who was a magician, an entertainer, a palmist, a joker who knew every nook and corners of this turtle-like (lying down having a sunbath) island... and who was there when you were there? Anyway the island is nice but it missed that character. Glad you had time for serendipity. Would love to visit you, should you & family retired there.

  3. I do miss my late grand uncle even though we could never seem to find the magical bond when we were presented the chance. Did pass by his last resting place that I last saw him in Pulau Tikus. Building appeared calm in the midst of the hustle bustle
