Don't Smile....please

Don't you just hate paparazzi.....??

I don't know about you but I get very annoyed with paparazzi like photography. And usually it occurs at weddings, especially if it is a high profile wedding or event. Worse yet at weddings I reckon because guests are invited to grace the event and the purpose of friends and family commune as one is to bear witness to the matrimonial union of the very people they care about.

The anticipation of seeing the couple walk down the aisle.... The excitement of seeing them all groomed for that one very important day..... The silent hope of being the one taking the best shot of them with your camera......

And then it happens....

An army of amateur photographers swarm into your line of sight. Disregard that you can't even see the procession much less snap a photo. Disregard the presence of any protocols. Disregard if the stage was actually meant for just the bride and groom.... These "mercenaries" would make their way into the thick of an event... Probably imagining themselves in Afghanistan and cut their way through any crowd or obstacle....just so that they can snap.....wait..... 6 to 10 shots of one scene... Wait.....thats not all.... After everyshot with their ultra expensive dSLR they MUST review it on their LCD before they snap the remaining shots....

So when the bride smiles.....the process goes as such

SNAP....review.....SNAP......review......SNAP.....review.......SNAP.....review......SNAP.........review......SNAP...review.....SNAP....review.... Oh the bride stopped smiling.... The groom is smiling now.....SNAP.....review....

You get the freaking picture

So during the last wedding i was invited to attend.... I was asked why I didn't go to the front of the stage to snap the bride and groom.....

Well, with so many photographers....i doubt anything i snap would be able to top them. Might as well shoot the scenes that no one cares..... Capture the moment when it is not called for.

After all, isn't photography all about capturing the moment..... Not just posing for the moment?
