Over the weekend I was at a local shopping mall, correction more like one of the many shopping districts in Kuala Lumpur, which incidentally is the Curve-Ikano(IPC)-E@Curve(or the shopping complex formerly known as Cineleisure Damansara)....
Anyway, what astonished me were the amount of McDonald's in that area!
Now I'm not against McD's as I practically grew up with it.....from the first few outlets located in the then Yow Chuan Plaza (No where to be seen anymore...or more like where DoubleTree by Hilton is sitting), to the one in Sungai Wang Plaza, still there and going strong.... McValue meals started with a coupon system that allowed you to buy it at a steal for only RM 2.99, yes....two ringgit and ninety-nine cents or the equivalent of 1 US Dollar for a burger, fries and soft drink....not to mention the catchy jingle in Cantonese (yee-kau-sap-kau.......yee-kau-sap-kau.....yee-kau-sap-kau.........)
OK.....went a little too far......ANYWAY....
What astonised me was the fact there are 3 outlets in a stretch of 500 meters!!! How I know its 500 meters? Coz GoogleMaps said so and I have proof......But i mean....WTH!!!????
One for the movie goers at E@Curve......
One for the regular folks at The Curve.......
One for those who can't get a carpark and require a drivethrough which is right where the SOLE ORIGINAL McD stood a few years ago......
I mean, already it is not the most healthy of food and there has been a silent protest for how it contributes to social ills, by which I mean obesity and friends.....And there's the dynasty of advertisements that no longer make you wish to eat a burger anymore but you will be having thoughts such as "Gee....that's a COOL cup to have....I gotta eat one of those extra large meals with a sundae......Gotta collect all colours......Each sold separately and on different weeks..... Gee what a cool cup...."
So to make life easier for these consumers....McD's have increased their reach out......No extra charge during deliveries.....24/7 and 365 deliveries (we also deliver on the 366th day once in 4 years ;) )......and if you are in The Curve district.....you don't have to walk to us.....we will build one NEARER to you soon.....
They probably figured it was more profitable to build another outlet than to rent shuttles to ferry people directly to their outlets.....they may have a point come to think of it.....
So when it comes to corporate responsibility......I think it was a wider scope than just whatever McD's have been trying to do via cancer children programs and the occasional recycling drive....... To promote such convenient lifestyle (in a politically correct way) may actually be more irresponsible for an industry that has an end point of cultivating an obese nation.....

Today is Monday.....
The day after the weekend.....
It was 7am......
Guess what happened??
Yup......got my infamous SMS....please refer to entry on 7th June for the whole 9 yards of bitching session...
"Fever since yesterday....taking MC today....going to clinic later...."
Fever since yesterday.....you're a blardi doctor......ever heard of paracetamol???!!!!
Same breed of insect that decides Monday is a better day to go to a clinic coz Sunday is a rest day.... shouldn't go to clinic....Would have been a waste if clinic gave MC for Sunday and not the precious Monday..
Come tomorrow......No signs of lethargy......No tell tale signs that someone has been sick......
Like a 8 hour bug (office hour bug....)..... which miraculously disappears even without medication.....
In fact this kind of illness can be cured by just a piece of paper with some magical words written on it....
Come to think of it...sounds like some chinese practice where they write some mumbo jumbo on a piece of paper....burn it and drink the ashes with water....
Maybe come tomorrow I'll burn that fucking MC and make him drink those ashes.....
