Counter Struck

I love car shopping....and I guess most guys do. Or then again it
crosses the gender barrier when we talk about cars. Who doesn't like
to get into a new car? Touch the steering...be it leather trimmed or
not.....we fondle the indicator and wiper sticks even though we know
it won't function in the showroom. Shifting the car seat and adjusting
the back rest just because there is a lever or better yet electronic
dials to meddle with. And the list goes on....

Then through all the temptation and flirt with the car, we do mental
calculations of the repayment. We bargain and justify the need for our
wants....

The devil works itself within us.....

Hence when the advocate arrives a.k.a. the salesperson........it
REALLY wouldn't take that much to tip us over the edge. Yet as I found
out during my outing people can still screw it up.

Yet through it all it is still not impossible to stumble upon people
who will awe you with their courtesy and service.....
One of the cars that caught my attention was the peugeot 308
turbo.....for those who haven't tried it, I do recommend it. For its
price tag and specification, not many cars out there can match it in
terms of aesthetic design and for its performance.....phew......move
over Civic 2.0!!!

But mind you the process of getting a test drive was
not an event I would like to commit to my precious diminishing memory
cells.

As starters.....please don't bother to fill up the "Request A Test
Drive" form in their homepage. It's been a month. No call, no sms, and
not even an acknowledgment email from them. First impression given is
"The customer doesnt deserve a test drive"

So step 2......on the advice of friends that I should check out the
main showroom in Glenmarie, we zoomed there during the lunch hour
hoping to lose weight by having meal replacement therapy to satisfy
some torque hunger. Instead we were greeted with not interested eyes
(not even half interested), they don't have someone to man the shop if
they take me for a test drive (there were half a dozen other staff in
the showroom), and they didn't even bother to hover over you to tell
you the specs, price or request for a name card. And imagine this is
from their main showroom.......

Persistent as I can be, step 3.....call up a local branch to make an
appointment for a test drive. Set it at 1pm. And when arrived,
salesman hasn't gotten it ready. Chit chat with colleagues....yada
yada yada.....we were in the car at 1:40pm. Not much time left for a
lunch time test drive. Car was a sweet drive for the price bracket.
And like I said you won't get much better for what you pay.

Then the missus was interested for a demo. So I brought her on a
Sunday to the branch along Jln Maarof in Bangsar. Only one staff
available but yet Ms Annie Beh was more than happy to serve us and
even OFFERED a test drive if we were willing to wait for her to call a
helping hand back to the office. It took her 90 minutes (while I went
for lunch) but it was an impressive walk in service that I received.
She was very informative with her product knowledge and was equally as
graceful to allow time to decide without being pushy to close the
deal.

But what impressed me most was she twice followed up at 1 week
apart intervals to check on the decision status. While her main
objective is to close the deal, she does it with a finesse that makes
you feel genuinely appreciated as a potential customer.

While peugeot and I may not forge a partnership yet......I do hope Ms
Annie will always continue her fine professionalism. (BTW....Look her
up if you're interested in a peugeot.... you won't regret it)

ps....she is not related to me okay....

Anyway important lesson learnt from Annie.
